Nino Scimeca's art is defined by a rare technique called "Velatura". This technique is the layering of many transparent colors. Each layer of color interacts with one another to bring to life a final color that displays many effects in the final layer.
The Velatura Technique comes from the Renaissance Period and was first used by Leonardo Da Vinci and then later Michelangelo. This technique is not often taught because it is known only by a very few artists in Italy.
It is very rare to find an artist to teach this technique because of the degree of difficulty and the amount of time needed. Nino's paintings display this technique with an exceptional ability and deep sense of chromaticism. He applies this technique in his painting in the same manner as Caravaggio and other masters of the Renaissance and Baroque periods.
We are lucky that Nino is willing to share his 30+ successful years of knowledge and technique with his students in the Art Workshops at The Penny House Inn. Known throughout Europe as a premiere Fine Art Painter, Nino studied at The Academy of Fine Arts, in the Monastary of San Martino Delle Scale and at The Academy of Fine Arts in Palermo. NIno's mastery of painting is second to none. He has been compared to Salvador Dali by many, and his ability to teach is exceptional.
